ACR 175-Resolution on Youth Sports CTE Education
AssemblyMember David Tangipa presented Resolution ACR175 August 6, 2026 on Assembly Floor

California brain-health advocacy is moving from conversation to public action.
ACR175 was introduced back in April 2026 and successfully passed out of policy committees to where we are today.
Thursday, August 6, 2026, Assemblymember David Tangipa announced the CTE Education Resolution on the California Assembly Floor—an important step toward greater awareness of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), concussion prevention, and long-term brain health in youth sports.
Earlier this year, at the
Global CTE Summit, Assemblymember Tangipa announced his intention to pursue a statewide resolution encouraging CTE education for youth contact-sport coaches. A former Fresno State tight end, he brings personal understanding of both the value of athletics and the importance of protecting young athletes from preventable brain injury. He also publicly recognized the California Neurology Society for its advocacy in advancing this effort.

Coaches are often among the first adults positioned to recognize when an athlete may have sustained a concussion or other head injury. Better education can help them respond appropriately, reinforce safe practices, and build a sports culture that places long-term brain health alongside athletic achievement.
The August 6 Assembly Floor announcement represents the next step in translating neurological evidence into public awareness and meaningful policy.
CNS thanks Assemblymember Tangipa for his leadership and continued partnership. We remain committed to contributing the neurological expertise needed to help protect California’s young athletes.
